What are Small Gate Sprue Bushings?

Small Gate Sprue bushings are hardened steel mold components that accept an extrusion nozzle and provide the opening used to transfer molten plastic to the mold cavity.

In plastic injection molding, The sprue bushing is a metal part that links the mold with the injection machine.

A sprue bushing is made of hot working die steel SKD61 and features the properties of heat/wear resistance.

To prevent leakage of plastic materials, the feed throat is usually designed into a chamfer R. The SR (spherical radius) of the mold sprue bushing should be 1-2mm larger than the sr of the injection nozzle.

The diameter (D) of the sprue bushing hole should be 0.5mm larger than the diameter (d) of the injection machine nozzle.

Three measures to shorten the main small gate sprue bushings

1. The sprue bushing of a 2-plate mold has to be submerged in the A plate (unless otherwise required by the client);
2. The main sprue bushing of a 3-plate mold must be longer than 25 (including 25). A large sprue bushing must be used.
3. Employ a hot sprue bushing (hot runner) to manufacture products with high appearance or other special requirements.
